The new year isn't a very big deal to me. I went to bed before midnight, but was up long enough to wish my family a happy 2008. I feel pretty much as [info]mactavish does: "So here it is, 2008, and good or bad, whatever it is, we'll handle it."

Potatoes and onions for the breakfast tortilla (Spanish thing that's like a frittata) are on the stove, as is the pot of chicken bones and feet for the stock for the soup I was gonna make for [info]sogwife yesterday, but she was too sick to eat.

Tonight begins the Mom Food Project. Today's mom food is her fried chicken. I talked to her about the details yesterday, and I'll see if I can come close to duplicating it. It's one of the only things of hers that I've not made very much myself, so I'm flying a little blind here.

Happy New Year, everyone. Hope it is a healthy, happy, and prosperous one for you.

I was gonna do The Compact, but:

1) I already don't buy much new stuff, because I'm always broke
2) Most of what I own was given to me or found (on the road, on Freecycle...)
3) I don't need any more steenkin' rules in my life right now, y'know?

But anyway, all my best to those of you who are doing it this year, and if you're in the East Bay (of the San Francisco Bay Area), I recommend the Berkeley Freecycle list as a good place to get rid of your extra clutter. (I *don't* recommend the Oakland list.)

Nana's famous fried chicken is up at [info]serenecooking. There are some happy tummies around here tonight.
